MESSIAH REHEARSALS — If you are planning to sing in this year’s 63rd presentation of Handel’s Messiah — Rehearsals for the Messiah will be on Mondays: October 24 and 31 and November 7, 14, and 21. We will again be rehearsing at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road (on Battleground Avenue across from the Lowes Store). Registration will begin at 7:00 pm and rehearsal will begin promptly at 7:30 pm. There will be a $25 registration fee (cash or checks only, please) and scores will be available for purchase, if you don’t already have one. The dress rehearsal is scheduled for Monday, November 28, and the performance will be on Tuesday, November 29, 7:00 pm at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro. As additional information is available, it will be distributed by email to singers previously registered with the group, on our Facebook page, and on this website.
SPRING NEWS — In the spring of 2017, we are planning to sing Elijah, part 1, by Mendelssohn. In order to present this piece, we will need a large choir with all voice parts represented. We will have a sign up sheet at the Messiah rehearsals for those interested in singing with us this spring to present this wonderful musical piece. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Avenue. Our performances will be in late April and early May, most likely on Sunday afternoons. Please think about singing with us for the Spring 2017 season and help our group perform Elijah! Please mark your calendars now with these important dates. On Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, there will be a Memorial Day service sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 53. This service honors those local members of the military, active and retired, who died this past year. The service usually lasts no more than 45 minutes. GOS members are invited to come sing, as a group, familiar patriotic songs such as “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.” Music will be provided when you arrive. As this event is scheduled on a holiday weekend, I am aware that some of you will be traveling. We will need enough volunteers to cover all of the voice parts. If you are in town and willing, please be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, by 1:40 pm. If you can, please wear red, white, and blue. Thank you, thank you! to everyone who came and sang at the first Messiah rehearsal this past Monday, October 26. This rehearsal went very well. We do have space for additional singers, especially tenors. I know that some of you were unable to attend this first rehearsal and plan to be present at the second rehearsal. If you are planning to sing with the group this year, please attend this coming Monday, November 2
The practice location again this year is at Mt. Pisgah UMC on the corner of Battleground Avenue and Pisgah Church Road, across from Lowe’s. Parking is available on both sides of the church building. Remaining practices will be on November 2, 9, 16, and 23. Registration begins at 7:00 pm, with practice beginning promptly at 7:30. The registration fee is $25; scores will be available for purchase for $10. Singers must register no later than November 2 to sing this year and attendance at the dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro. The performance is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, at the Carolina Theatre.

This is an invitation — come sing with the Greensboro Oratorio Singers during our 2015-2016 season!
Rehearsals for this fall will begin Monday, September 14, 2015 at 7:30 pm; registration will start at 7:00 pm in the choir room at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, (corner of Friendly and Westridge). Membership is open to all interested singers who are willing to participate in the regular rehearsals and concerts. No auditions are required. We will rehearse on Sept. 14, 21, and 28, and October 5 and 12. We will be singing Seasons (A Choral Song Cycle) by Andy Beck and Missa Festiva by John Leavitt.
We will perform on Sunday October 11 at Friends Home West at 7:00 pm; on Sunday October 18 at Twin Lakes in Burlington at 4:00 pm; and on Sunday October 25 at River Landing in Colfax at 4:00 pm. New singers are welcome. Come sing with us!
