Here at the end of the 2011-2012 GOS season, it is time to say THANKS! to everyone who came to Peace United Church of Christ Monday night, May 7, for food, fellowship, and a silent auction with a little live auctioneering thrown in for good measure. We had fun and raised some money to support our group’s operations. Thank you to everyone who has supported our group this year, in whatever way — by singing, by donating time and/or money, and by showing up for rehearsals and performances. It takes all of us working together to make this thing work!

This is also an invitation to the last scheduled event for our group until September. On Sunday, May 27 at 2:00pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, there will be a Memorial Day program sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 53 that honors those local members of the military who gave their lives for our country this past year. GOS members are invited to come sing familiar patriotic songs such as “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.” As this event is scheduled on a holiday weekend, I am aware that some of you will be traveling. We will need enough volunteers to cover all of the voice parts. If you are in town and available, please be at Forest Lawn Cemetery by 1:30pm. Thanks in advance to everyone who comes!

Have a great summer! We will begin again in the fall on Monday, September 10 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.

Rehearsals for our spring season have already begun, but we still have room for additional singers, especially tenors and basses. Our rehearsals are from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the choir room at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Avenue. All interested singers are invited and there are no auditions. We will be practicing every Monday evening through April. The registration fee is $25 and there will be an additional charge for the music. This spring we are singing John Rutter’s Psalmfest and Maurice Durufle’s Requiem. COME SING WITH US!

Rehearsals for our spring season will begin on Monday, January 9, 2012, from 7:30pm to 9:00pm in the choir room at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Avenue. All interested singers are invited and there are no auditions. We will practice every Monday evening beginning January 9 and continuing through April. The registration fee is $25 and there will be an additional charge for the music. We will be singing John Rutter’s Psalmfest and Maurice Durufle’s Requiem. We will perform these works in concert at the following locations and time:

Announcing the 2011 performance of the Messiah

The Greensboro Oratorio Singers will present the 58th annual performance of George Frederic Handel’s Messiah on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 7:00pm, at the War Memorial Auditorium at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Messiah Rehearsals Begin!

Rehearsals for our 58th annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah will begin on Monday, October 31, at 7:30 pm at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, NC. Rehearsals will continue on every Monday night through November and are open to all interested adult singers without audition. Auditions are required for singers ages 17 and younger. Registration will begin at 7:00 pm and the registration fee is $25. Scores will be available for purchase if you do not have one.

The dress rehearsal is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, at the War Memorial Auditorium at 7:15 pm. The performance is on Thursday, December 8 at 7:00 pm at the War Memorial Auditorium. Singers must register no later than the second practice and attendance at the dress rehearsal is mandatory!

Time To Sing!

Summer is almost over and it’s time to get ready to sing again! Please join the Greensboro Oratorio Singers for our 2011-2012 year. Rehearsals begin September 12th at 7:30 p.m. with registration at 7:00 p.m. at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, (corner of Friendly and Westridge) in the choir room.

Our focus for the fall will be on giving service to the community. We will be performing Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi and the Hallelujah Chorus by Ludwig van Beethoven for the residents of several retirement homes. Our confirmed concert dates are Oct. 16th (Sunday) at Friends Home West at 7pm and Oct. 23th (Sunday) at Carolina Estates Retirement Community at 3pm. On Monday, October 31st, we will begin rehearsals for our annual Messiah production which will be held at the War Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, December 8th.
